I Cried When I Watched Babe …
I wonder how swine flu will change how people look at the movie Babe. I remember when Babe was playing in some Asian country the consumption of pork went down. Looks like this swine flu is the real deal. I just wonder when they’ll start declaring duct tape and plastic wrap alerts!
Man, I want some bacon right now.
It’s also funny because folks are going after this one Senator because they voted against included some stimulus money for flu pandemic preparations. The Senators point was is it really stimulus worthy or should it just go into the normal budget which it really should go to. Oh well, people always want to point a finger so this is a convenient one.
For those who use Facebook, looks like they’re gonna start allowing third-party sites access to your Facebook data. Not sure I agree with that but that’s gotta be some form of revenue for Facebook so I can see why they would do that. Not that I use Facebook but I guess I should start to lock it down. Lock it down.
Looks like drifting isn’t just for car drivers going around turns anymore. I thought it was interesting study only because it really does show where peoples focus is at. This quote was pretty interesting:
Why does it always have to be about us? Our needs? Doesn’t that just make us humans sound like flakey, whiney, selfish fleshbags? Not that I’m the perfect example but come on is this really surprising news? It’s like being told about this great vacation place called Disney World while currently being in D.C. But you only make it as far as South of the Border because the journey is too long and well South of the Border isn’t that bad.
What a Day!
First it was close to 90 degrees out. The Orioles come back to beat the Rangers 8-5. The Washington Capitals force a Game 7 by beating the Rangers 5-3. And Rounds 3-7 of the NFL were on. A few Maryland players were drafted, which was nice and the Skins had a few picks to help out the team. Even though they didn’t draft anyone on the offensive line I think I like all their picks in terms of what positions they took other than drafting a Wide Receiver. Was he really the best person available on their draft board? I’m sure they could have gone for a offensive tackle or guard at that point.
Other than that few interesting links for reading entertainment …
Yeah, yeah, yeah I know pandemic. I really just wonder if this is going to revitalize the phrase: “I just don’t dig on swine” from Pulp Fiction. (Which, looking up the quote, I always thought it was “I just don’t dine on swine” not “dig on swine” – weird)Best News of The Day!
The New York Jets trade with the Cleveland Browns to move up to the 5th spot to select Mark Sanchez. Go J-E-T-S!!! They just help prevented the Redskins from stupidly trading up to draft Sanchez.
Hopefully the Skins don’t screw up their pick now.
On a side note, Darrius Heyward-Bey was the first wide receiver off the board! Amazingly before Michael Crabtree. Too bad it’s with the Oakland Raiders.
And with the 13th pick, the Washington Redskins pick Brian Orakpo, DE from Texas!
So Many Choices …
The upcoming NFL Draft is just days away. I really can’t wait for it. For some odd reason, even though in the past I’ve been burned by it, I enjoy watching the draft and seeing who my Skins end up picking or doing. The thing with being a Redskins fan is that the team has so much drama attached to it. It’s like Snyder is just a drama queen during the whole year. Yes, I like the guy as an owner because he’s willing to do anything to make the team better. Though that also means doing some stupid things as well.
This draft drama are about how Snyder loves Mark Sanchez and he’d love to draft him even though we have a half-decent quarterback who’s still developing and massive holes on the offensive and defensive lines along with at linebacker. Cornerback depth is also a slight issue but the lines really do need help. Plus this year features a potential First Round pick coming out of Maryland: Darrius Heyward-Bey aka DHB to apparently all the NFL analyst. Guess they’re just too lazy to say or write his whole name out. Hopefully Darrius does well.

It wasn’t I who spelled it wrong. It wasn’t I.
I’m guessing the O’s took the Nationals missing jersey letters to make more hats.

ZOMG! That Gushing Water Sound Can’t Be Good …
It was a nice day today so I figured I’d do some yard work. Mowed the lawn. Laid down some grass seed. Turned on the outside water so I could then go and water the grass seeds. That’s when I heard a strange noise as water gushed down the empty pipe to the hose bibb. Something didn’t sound right. As I went outside I saw water pouring from behind the siding. Then I noticed water coming out of the garage. Then I noticed water pooling in our foyer.
Yes, apparently the pipe was fatigued and the pressure of the me turning on the water caused the pipe to burst. I’m glad I turn off the outside water during the winter because I can only imagine the pipe bursting when we weren’t home. (Which happened to a friend of ours this past winter) After turning the water off and cleaning up the mess in the foyer I was mulling over what the next step was. On Monday I could start getting quotes for repair work. But after paying a plumber a few Bens to replace a shutoff valve that didn’t sit well with me. I guess I could learn how to sweat fit a pipe. That involves fire. Fire is cool. Burning down your house isn’t.
After some research I found this product called the Sharkbite. It’s a neat invention that allows you to
replace pipes without having to solder any joints. Looks interesting and apparently it’s approved/certified in various plumbing codes as well. And Home Depot sells them. hmmmmm. Interesting. The problem was that the pipe was already repaired by a previous owner. I’d have to cut a longer section for this device to work. Which if this Sharkbite thing does work shouldn’t be a problem.
So a short trip to Home Depot netted two Sharkbite couplers, a three foot half-inch type L copper pipe and a pipe cutter for under $35. In under 40 minutes I removed the original pipe, installed the new pipe with the Sharkbite couplers and everything seems ok. Turned on the outside water and even after a few hours still no leakage.
I think I’m happy!
And This Is What’s Wrong With The United …
errr apparently this is what’s wrong with Canada.
I also found this site where they list silly state laws and I do say some of them are pretty hilarious. Yet not really because if you really think about it the people are paying for these elected officials to come up with this stuff. Such as, in Baltimore County, Maryland, it’s illegal to take a lion to the movies. Who came up with this stuff? Let alone who’s on record for voting for this? I guess when a lion does go to the movies and starts to maul people those injuried familes are gonna go after the one elected-official who didn’t vote for said law. yep.
Speaking of Baltimore, anyone notice the Orioles new away jersey’s? I remember seeing this in the paper but never really seeing the jersey. I ended up watching a few innings of one of their games against the Rangers and noticed the “Baltimore” across the players chests. I can’t say I like it. The word just seems to be bunched up. I think I prefer the original “Orioles” on the front.
