Month: April 2009

  • Post-Lent Thoughts …

I can’t really believe Easter has already come and gone.  It seems like the month of March just flew by and April is already almost half-way over.  Where is the time going?  Just this past Sunday, on Easter no less, I realized that our taxes were due in a few days.  Yikes!  I kept on thinking are we so busy that I’m just living day by day not realizing what point in time I’m actually in?

Growing up in the church we attend there wasn’t much emphasis on giving up anything for Lent.  It wasn’t until a visiting Pastor sorta brought that idea up to our congregation as well as witnessing how a Catholic co-worker of mine gives up coffee each year.  And he loves his coffee.  Every so often something will come across my mind to give up such as giving up eating meat.  That was hard.  This year post-election political commentating I figured I should lay off that for awhile.  So much angst seeing idiotic decision making.  I definitely would say there were some interesting things that happened during Lent but oh well.  I wanted to concentrate on happier more positive things.  Whether that was true or not that was the plan.  No political commentating during Lent.  For the most part I think God helped me see a brighter side to our politicians.

Plus Easter was nice.  Got to spend time with my side of the family.  Our church was mentioned in the Washington Post and for a brief moment of time our picture was on the front page of the WashingtonPost.com site.  Chewy was amazed that I gave my name to the photographer since I like to keep a extremely low profile.  I just felt that if there was a moment to glorify God then this could be one of them.  To not be paranoid about keeping a low profile but being joyfully open about my faith and the work God is doing in D.C. – it just seemed the right thing to do.

Hopefully, this is just a gateway for those in the area to have a place to worship our Savior.  It’s not about CCC but His church.

I wonder if it’s too late to look for discounted Easter candy.  Need to feast on some bunny ears.

  • Randomness …

  • See, It’s Not Just In My Head …

It’s called oral allergy syndrome.  Over the years I’ve noticed as my allergies have gotten worse I’ve developed particularly bad allergies to various fruits.  I’ve pretty much narrowed the list down to apples, pears, peaches and fresh cherries.  Most thought it was just in my head even though I personally love all of those fruits.  I guess most know me as a meat and potatoes type of guy so that’s probably why they think it’s just in my head.

But see it’s really just in my mouth not in my head!  Well I guess my mouth is part of my head so it sorta is just in my head.  But that’s not what they mean.  You know.  They mean the other meaning for “Just in your head” as opposed to …

    ARRRGGGG!

    GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!

  • So That’s the Reason Why …

For those that watch House but didn’t watch last night episode just skip this entry.

For those that did watch did you find it odd that they killed off Kutner in the way that they did.  He was a likable character and for the most part was the one who came up with the correct diagnosis.  The whole episode seemed strange to me.  I figured at some point this batch of doctors would get removed and the original three would come back to form the team again.  I figured it was just the beginning of the end of Kutner, 13 and Taub.

However, I was wrong.  Apparently, Kal Penn, the actor who plays Kutner is joining the White House staff.  I knew he had campaigned for Obama so I guess he thought this was a good career move.    I kid.  Looks like he found something else that he’s passionate about and was willing to make a switch to help improve social relationships within the country.  I applaud him!

    And Another Thing …

Last night was also the NCAA Mens Basketball Finals where North Carolina beat Michigan State.  Bah, big deal right?  Well, guess who was the only team this year to beat both UNC and Michigan State in the regular season.  That’s right.  The University of Maryland.  BOOYAH!  It’s the little victories that help us through til next season.

  • If The Season Ended Today …

Today was opening day for the Baltimore Orioles and lo and behold they beat the mighty Yankee’s.  The O’s won 10-5 earlier today.  What a great way to start the season.  Hopefully they’ll be able to keep it up!

  • Wheeeeeeeeeee! …

Just got back from a three day business trip and I am tired.  It wasn’t really long nights but early morning and tons of scrambling to fix things that other co-workers should have fixed weeks ago.  Such fun.  Ultimately, I think every thing went well and there are things that need to be addressed and fixed.  But overall it seemed like my boss was happy with what transpired during the event, so I guess that was good.

There were some interesting things I saw in the news:

  • I Wonder If I’m Considered A Small Adult …

ThinkGeek does it again with these two great items!  First we have the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag which just looks adorable and doesn’t have a smell that would gross out Han Solo.  Then there’s Squeez Bacon!!!  Let me say that again … SQUEEZ BACON!  Fully cooked bacon that you can squeeze out of a bottle.  Who would have thought!  I’m just glad some one did!

Too bad it’s probably all an April Fools joke.
