Too Much Pollen ...

This time of year is horrible for me.  All the pollen in the air makes it hard to breath and see.  Combine that with my allergy medicine I feel so lethargic and moody.  All I want to do is curl up in a ball, do nothing and sleep, sleep til the day when the earth looks like Coruscant.  Then I was reminded during one of my devotions that It is a positive crime to be weak in God's strength.

• Who would have even consider her for that position?  What has she even done at the judicial level to warrant a consideration?
• It's not race, it's smart business to not overpay for a over-the-hill, defensive-liability in the outfield.
• It's almost crab season!!!
• Whedon is slated to direct the "Avengers"!!!!  That should be awesome though I'm still baffled at Chris Evans being tabbed as the next Captain America.  First Chris Evans is the Human Torch in the Marvel Universe.  Second he doesn't really have the physique to portray the chiseled Captain.  And third he doesn't seem to have the presence/attitude that the Captain should have - unlike Nathan Fillion who would have been a great cast for Captain America.
• See, sometimes it does pay off to keep that old crap around.
• Do you want more dates or do you want to get married?  I guess they could be one in the same for a few.  Though sometimes I don't get the females of our species.

Love Is In The Air ...

Discovery Channel has been airing their latest nature series called Life on Sunday nights (not to be confused with the short-lived NBC show called Life)  We end up recording them and watching them later since there are so many commercials and Sunday nights isn't always the most convenient time to watch television.  One of the last episodes we watched was on birds and the various things birds do to survive, various mating rituals and adaptations to a lack of food and the need to feed their young (the whole thing about swallowing other young birds and then feeding them to their own kids was kinda gross).  The show is very much like the Planet Earth series though the U.S. version is voiced-over by Oprah Winfrey who, IMO, is kinda boring.

Anyways, after church today we went to Brookside Gardens to pick up some seed packets Chewy had seen when we were there a few month ago with some out of town guests.  True the place was packed and finding parking took awhile but we eventually did.  As we were taking a stroll through the gardens we saw two geese going at it.  No, not like love making (though we might have saw that) but it seemed like two male geese were having fist-a-cuffs or wing-a-cuffs if you will.  It probably went on for a good ten minutes or so.  We didn't see how it started but the male that was with a female had lost.  What was weird was that the winning goose didn't go after the girl or even stayed in the general area.  After chasing the losing goose away for awhile the winning goose just swam away.  So I've got no reason as to why it all went down.  Then again isn't that always the case for when people get into fights - no good reason at all?  oh well.  I'd just have to say that was an interesting outing and felt as if it should have been filmed and been a segment in the Discovery Channels Life series.

• You a Trek fan?  Want some official Trek memorabilia?  Too late.  The auction was yesterday.
• D.C. meters are going high tech.  It's actually a pretty good idea considering the technology at hand.  Plus if you get a ticket they bill your account.  Talk about efficiency!

Indian Summer in Spring? ...

Typically in this area between the end of the Fall and beginning of the Winter seasons we'll have a week of perfect, crisp summer weather.  Oddly and I'm guessing because of this "global confusion" we just went through a week of hot summer temperatures of 85+ for a few days.  Now we're back to a normal spring of highs in the 60's and lows still in the 40s.  Oh Al Gore save us!

• How many people actually care about the Space program?  Probably not many.  Space the final frontier will not be explored by the so-called "Greatest Nation In The World" because of massive budget cuts and the mothballing of a 40 year old shuttle design.  Now it looks like the Ares 1 rocket program is in jeopardy as well.  I guess we can at least dream about exploring space in our sleep.
• Real World: D.C. was a bust.  Guess the city isn't all that exciting for all those 20+ year olds out there.
• Kumar leaves the White House for another run at White Castle!  So what did he do while he was working for Obama?
• Now why didn't I think of this!
• I'm surprised it took this long for the iPhone to get the ability to multitask

Enjoy the Silence ...

No, not a Depeche Mode song just nothing really going through the noggin.  Allergies are horrible but the warm weather is sorta nice.  Duke won the Final Four to the dismay to all those who went to different ACC schools yet it shows the ACC haters how good of a conference it really is (Big East was the best - bah! =)  Skins trade for McNabb which was a good trade IMO if he signs an extension for another 1-3 years.  JC is a nice guy but nice guys don't win football games.

It's Palm Sunday ...

Overweight? Depressed? Aged 35? ...

Yes.  yes.  And YES!  Fine.  I'm not depressed and I'm not goofing on those who potentially have a psychological disorder or just have found a way to draw attention to themselves.  This was the tag line for an article about characterizing and labeling "gamers."  I just found it interesting because I fit two-of-the-three and before getting married I'd probably would label myself as a "gamer."  But is being a "gamer" a bad thing (as opposed to being a "player"? =)  They only say playing video games could hinder reading skills and is linked to ADD. 

Thinking about this some more is "gamer" this generations "nerd" or "geek"?  I've recently heard both of those words, as well as typical characterizations being used to refer to only those who are "geeky" or "nerdy" in a negative fashion.  Why are these characterizations seemingly done in a negative light?  Is it that bad to be a "nerd" or a "geek"?  The term "jock" can be thought of as both positive and negatively.  So why not "nerd" or "geek" or even "gamer"?  If anything these are the people that are gonna fix your computer or setup your DVR.  I was trying to come up with more name characterizations that lean more towards the liberal arts side but I really couldn't come up with anything.  Only that if you say something negative about them, you may hurt their feelings.  It hurts when they boo. *snicker* 

• If you build it, you can't take it away so you better maintain it better.  I really have no issues with the elevators being out.  I just have issues with bad planning such as when there is only one real exit point that needs to move tens, if not hundreds of people off or up to a platform.  If there was ever a fire and people had to get off a platform with just one exit there would be trampling happening.  (I'm thinking of the Shady Grove station)
• When I heard this I knew people were going to overreact.  Kornheiser is known for saying stuff other people think and wish would happen.  So if you don't know Kornheiser then you take him seriously and then your blood pressure goes up and we all find out you were doping during your seven Tour wins.  I'm surprised Kornheiser actually backtracked a bit.  Guess it's better to keep the general population than stand by your own schtick.

I'm Not The Only Other Person Who Thinks This Way ...

Got any opinions about the GenY'ers?  Apparently, some think they're lazy and they have a sense of entitlement.  Obviously, that's a huge generalization but IMO it's probably 75% true.  Things have been so good for that generation they don't understand the value of hard work or the concept of sweat-equity.  I really wonder if this recent downturn of the economy has shaken some of them up or not.  Do we "baby" the younger generation too much because we care too much?  I know my parents wanted a better life for all their kids and yes, my life has been easier than what they had to endure.  But I think they also tried to instill in us a sense of responsibility, a sense of hard work and that things in life that are free are usually worthless.  My parents wouldn't do something that we were supposed to do because if we didn't do it well someone would have to pay for that action.  None of this talking back stuff too.  Oh well, guess we're stuck with these GenMe folks for awhile.  Maybe the next generation will turn out better.

• Yesterday was an important day.  Why?  Because it was the first day Social Security started to pay out more in benefits than it was taking in.  Good luck GenMe trying to pay for all that loss money.  I'm still surprised there isn't more on this.  Oh wait.  The Democrats said this wasn't a problem.  The Democrats have the Presidency, the Senate and the House.  Guess they can gloss over it and then SLAM the Republicans that nothing was done when they don't any of the majorities.  These aren't the droids you're looking for.

• Don't you wish you could finish off people's sentences?  Sure Christ loved all people.  BUT He also hated sin.  Why do people always leave the sin part out.  Oh wait, people like to be ignorant of sin while focusing only on grace and His blessings.
