We just got back from our church retreat to Messiah College in Grantham, PA.  It was a good time as we were doing a Walk Thru the Bible seminar on The New Testament and we got to hang out with a few church friends.  There were a ton of kids from the city who typically are unable to leave the confines of the city and sometimes even their family.  The weather was good and surprisingly the food was really good.  Probably the only bad part was that a friend of ours has been extremely ill and wasn’t able to make it.  That and I accidentally took the pastoral candidate’s meal card and room key.    Yeah, that was a big oooops. 

Sharka even made an appearance at the retreat.

Yo JOE! …

No it’s not a shout out to all the Joe’s that I know.  sorry.  Just got back from watching the movie and even though I had already decided to “check my brain” at the door the movie was extremely entertaining.  Maybe it was because my expectations were already lowered but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.  Not wanting to ruin the movie for anyone, the only things I didn’t care for were how they changed the origins of almost everyone.  That and Snake-Eyes mask has lips.  Didn’t see that in any of the promos.  He just looks weird having lips on his mask.

Thought this article about the Nigerian 419 scams was pretty interesting.  Guess the downturn in the economy is affecting them as well.

With the Skins training camp going on we start seeing article about various aspects of the team.  We finally get to the punter article!  It did make me think of the old SNL Kicker Shuffle skit (aka We Are The Kickers).  Took me awhile to find online too.

There is Hope …

A pretty good piece about the young Orioles.  It’s sorta fun watching the young guns go through the ropes and show a ton of promise.  The outfield looks set with Jones, Markakis, and Reimold.  Weiters at catcher, Scott at DH and a slew of young pitchers doing pretty well.  Too bad we really have no infield prospects and watching some of the veterans decline (like Mora) is sorta sad.  Go O’s!

• GI Joe opens tomorrow!  Good?  Bad?  Who really cares?  It’s GI Joe!  
• I so gotta find this!  Ingenious!
• Read an article that revealed some of the LA Fitness killers mindset.  Pretty sad.  And yet I could see a ton of people going through something like that.  Most humans do want some sort of companionship, fellowship or community.  It’s sad this dude couldn’t find any one.
• As the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ extension is being discussed, looks like they may put salary requirements on it.  Which IMO is pretty stupid.  Why do they always want to get the people who have less to go more into debt?  I thought this was supposed to be a stimulus plan to encourage those who have money to spend it.  Is this secretly a way to curb spending by the government by having the extension fail?  Nah, just looks like a stupid move by the Republicans.
• WTOP is having a survey of the Top 10 Chinese Food in the area.  P.F. Chang’s?  Seriously?  P.F. Chang’s? They really need to have a list based upon non-Chinese and Chinese.  Then again, Panda Express would hit my list.   hmmmmm it’s finger Ling-Ling good!

Pure Silliness …

Other than being utterly tired, weak and sleepy these past few weeks I’m still able to find things that boggle my mind.  And to think we don’t even have any kids yet and I’m like this.    I know Sharka can be high-maintenance but he’s not that bad.

• For those who watch Futurama, one of my all time favorite shows, there’s good news!  The voice actors are returning.  Not sure how you could have an animated show where you’d replace all the voices with new ones.  Fox finally did something good for a change.
• The University of Maryland is switching to the Big East Conference.  Just kidding.  Why someone would come up with that I have no idea.
• I thought FedEx Field had expensive food.  People would have to take a second mortgage on their house just to eat at the new Cowboys stadium!  $90 cheese pizza coming up!  hmmm makes me wonder if they’ll be a Papa John’s Redskins pizza deal this year.
• Ok, I get universal health care is good if done right.  But is having an abortion really a necessity that should be included?  I’m guessing tummy-tucks and botox injections will be included as well.   
• The two asian ladies got freed from North Korea.  That doesn’t boggle my mind.  What does is that it was Bill Clinton that did it.  Not Hillary Clinton, our current Secretary of State.
• Cash for Clunkers is getting more money and it’s helping the dealers out.  People are buying foreign cars which is ironic in some sense.  First we bail the car companies because they made bad decisions.  Now we bail out the people who made bad purchasing decisions – I can’t afford gas anymore because my vehicle only gets single-digit MPG.  Too bad we can’t withhold our taxes because those in office are making bad decisions.  Talk about a double-dip tax against those who made responsible choices.  Plus experts are saying the environmental impact will pretty much amount to nothing.
• There’s a large ‘garbage patch’ in the ocean.  We all know about.  So lets study it to see how the sea creatures are affected by it.  Shouldn’t that be – Let’s go clean it up?

Sharka is pretty excited that it’s the start of Shark Week on Discovery Channel.  While surfing for various shark paraphernalia he saw these great white shark slippers for sale. 

Not as cute as Sharka especially since they look like they had some collagen injections in their lips.

Employed and Yet …

Been sitting here trying to update my resume that’s nearly fourteen years old.  I’m still employed but at some point one just has to make the time to update it.  I guess fourteen years was enough time to go by.  Or maybe I should wait til the fifteenth year rolls bye. 

Other interesting distractions …

• To all those organic champions out there.  Looks like you’re just wasting your money and it’s all in your head.
• hmmmmm crab cakes.  I’ve only heard of a handful of those places.  Seems mighty expensive too.  IMO, The Flaming Pit has some pretty good crab cakes.
• Never used Skype but know several people who do.  Still don’t know how it fits into eBay’s scheme of things but I guess it’s a good service.  Wonder if it’ll be like what happened to Blackberry.
• I gotta ask my cousin the dentist about this.

hmmm where’s Sharka.  Maybe I’ll play with him for a bit.  At least until the Orioles game starts up.
