  • WHY! …

No, I’m not talking about the Redskins signing Derrick Dockery to a huge contract.  I actually like the move since he’s a young guard they let slip away a few years ago.  I still don’t know how they’ll fill out the rest of the roster but at least they addressed issues on both the offensive and defensive lines.

What I’m really talking about is why are there only THREE episode of BSG left!!!!
    It’s soooooo good.

  • The Most Wonderful Day of The Year …

No, it’s not Christmas.  It’s the start of the NFL free agency period.  Which you know what that means.  Football season is just around the corner.  There’s been plenty of rumors floating around this whole week.  A ton of  ex-college kids have been running around at the NFL columbine to help improve their draft stock.  Draft day is just around the corner.  Then comes mini-camp and then the pre-season.  Can’t you just smell the pigskin?

I heard Zorn said that the Redskins would be active in this free agency period.  I couldn’t see how that could be since their salary cap numbers are horrible and their team depth is pretty bad.  But I wake up this morning and I hear that they signed both Albert Haynesworth and DeAngelo Hall to huge contracts!  I hope Haynesworth will continue to be a beast that will bolster that D-line which would then help the rest of the defense out but come on.  What about the rest of the team!  They only have three draft picks this year.  How are they gonna have the money to sign or draft depth on the offensive line, linebackers and cornerbacks?

I now fully expect them to trade their #13 overall First Round pick for a bunch of lower picks so they won’t have to pay the dude a huge rookie salary.  It’s sorta what they did last year and though those players may not be ready to play right away, at least they’ll be bodies and they’ll be cheap.

One can only hope that these new high priced players don’t get hurt during the season.

  • FINALLY! …

Today was the first day to register for this years Transformers convention known as Botcon.  As much fun as the convention is, their registration system really is pretty bad.  The main way to register is to FAX them the form.  Not only does this open to poor quality faxes they also only have one line to handle faxes.  So one’s gotta keep trying and trying and trying to get their faxes in and hope they actually receive it.  They won’t be able to start giving confirmations out until several weeks later.  Ugh.

Last year I had a problem with our FAX so I was forced to scramble around to try and get this form in.  Chewy was a big help in that.  This year I took an old modem, found some FAX software and did it through my computer.  It wasn’t the best way since the software wasn’t the best but I think it went through.

On a side note, if you look at this years brochure I’m in one of the pictures

  • It’s Tuesday? …

You know it’s going to be one of those days when you hit the snooze button thinking that you can sleep in because it’s Saturday.  Man, that was a rude awakening this morning.

  • Let’s Get Ready to S-P-E-N-D …

Interesting article about the lessons learned by Japan when it went through it’s bank caused recession in the 1990′s.  The question that I have, especially with the recent stimulus/spending bill is how does one convey the message of responsible spending and saving?  The country has gone from one end of the spectrum (post-Great Depression) to the other end of the spectrum (early 2000s) where we buy, buy, buy and dump, dump, dump which isn’t environmentally good for this planet.

Is there a solution for responsible capitalistic consumerism?

  • Is It Wrong …

Is it wrong to not do something because you find no joy in doing it even if you probably have more experience and knowledge in doing it and there’s an actual need?  Or is it fine to just allow those interested in doing the thing run the show and just sit off to the side and offer words of advice and encouragement?

  • Weekend Randomness …

  • Not So Blown Away …

The stimulus bill has been out for over a week now and I’m surprised the on-going discussion about it is starting to dwindle down. (If you haven’t read anything about check out here and here for a decent summary)  Other than a few states balking about taking the money that’s about it.  I’m sure everyone has their own view of if it’ll work or not.  I just find it funny that people are blaming deregulation as part of the problem and yet Slick Willy Clinton denies he had a hand or even a slight part in the downfall of the economy

On a side note, don’t forget one of the last things W did for this economy.

  • Blown Away …

No, I’m not talking about the stimulus bill.  I’m talking about the lid to our trashcan.  Blown away today by the blistery winds.  Our address is on the lid (carry over from parental paranoia) so I wonder if it’ll ever make it’s way home.

Update: Our lid found it’s way home on Friday night!  Someone was nice enough to drop it off on our porch.  We’re happy.

  • Save the Cheerleader, Save Your Mind …

It’s Presidents Day!  I have the day off and for the first time there’s nothing around the house that I need to fix or tend to; or at least that I know of.  I did take the car in for some scheduled maintenance but that was quick and early enough that I think I was the second person there.  I’m still catching up after losing a day last week and I can’t say that I’ve gotten there just yet but for once I think I’ve had a day to just decompress.  I know some who need to do this every day and for the most part I’m usually pretty good for a few months mostly because there’s usually just too much stuff to do.  Whether it’s to tend to family needs, church needs, house needs or work needs there always seem to be more stuff to do than time.  Even with days off I always feel like I’m in catch-up mode or something.

Today wasn’t like that.  I ended up watching a few episodes of Heroes: Season One on DVD.  One of my brothers gave this to me as a Christmas present and this was the first time I was really able to watch it.  Never saw the first run of the show since I think it conflicted with another show but a friend from church and an old high school buddy both told me it was good.  I’d have to concur.  It’s a pretty good show.  Too bad I hear Season Two is pretty bad and the jury’s still out on Season Three.  I also got to run on the treadmill for a bit.  Something I haven’t done since I hurt my ankle.  No flat out sprints but I was able to run at a slightly higher pace than jogging.  I’ll have to see how my ankle feels in the next few hours.

Also saw this news clip and video.  It’s actually painful for me to watch just because the type of behavior displayed from this adult makes me want to slap them silly.  And I do mean slap them silly.  The funny part is I can think of some folks, both gals and guys, that I knew in college who I could see doing this.  Waaaaaay too much drama.

Now I guess I should work on Bible study and the church prayer calendar.  At least I had a few hours to veg …
