Month: April 2006

  • United 93 opened this weekend.  Still not too sure how I feel about it.  I heard the producers got permission from all of the victims’
family to do the movie.  I’m glad they
did that.  I saw one of the movie promos
that had interviews of some of the family members and they all mentioned that
it wasn’t too soon after 9/11 to show the movie.  Mostly because they felt people had forgotten the horrors of that
day.  And that the movie would also
serve as another way to honor the lives of their loved ones.

Have people really forgotten?  I still remember when I first heard about it and thinking that
some prop plane had hit one of the towers.
Then seeing people at working grabbing their things and rushing out the
door.  Being told to look out the window
to see the Pentagon in smoke.  Getting
back to my office and conversing with co-workers when we felt the earth
shake.  (We thought the State Department
had just been hit by a car bomb, which we later found out was a military jet
    breaching the sound barrier.)  Feeling
helpless because we thought Metro had closed down but only to feel relief
because one co-worker filled his car with people to take home.  After dropping one co-worker at his house to
then see the TV coverage of the towers falling.  Getting home to see the worry look lifted from my parents face
since I couldn’t call them cuz the cell towers were oversubscribed.  Being able to call Chewy in Denver to let
her know I was ok.  Feeling anger and being
clueless for days trying to wrestle with why all this was happening.

    I haven’t forgotten.
    Nor will I ever.  I don’t think I’ll
go see the movie but I hope it does well.

  • THEY WERE ROBBED!

How could the officials not call a walk on LeBron during their last
possession?  It was like watching Little
Red Riding Hood skip through the woods.
Yet another NBA conspiracy is forming.
Who makes more money for the NBA?
    LeBron or the Zards?
    Exactly.

Major Transformer news as they announce information on this
    year’s Botcon.  drooool.

Today is also the first day of the NFL Draft!  Too bad the Skins first pick is the 21st
of the Second Round.  Hopefully, they
can find someone decent.  I still don’t
understand all this commotion over the Texans not picking Reggie Bush.  Sure he maybe the best player on the board
but if greed is making him not sign an already huge contract to be the #1
overall pick then too bad for him.  Let
someone else take that money and make Reggie the #2 overall pick with less
money.  I laff in the face of Reggie for not signing what Mario signed – a six-year, $54 million contract.  People are just greedy.  Reggie should be happy he’s playing football
for his career and not working in a WV coal mine.

I feel so cheated!  I’ve been watching the NFL Draft (while doing other stuff I might
add) waiting for the Skins draft pick to come up.  The Skins make a trade with the Jets to move up to the #3 pick in
the Second Round and there’s no coverage of it.  Nothing.  Nada.  ESPN briefly goes over the trade but then
there’s nothing on the player they pick.
    Man that sucks.

Speaking of WV coal mines, I read an Randal McCloy Jr. interview
about the last few moments in the mine before he went unconscious.  That his fellow miners started to say a “sinners
prayer” before they succumbed.  A few
people at work asked me what exactly is a “sinners prayer” thinking it might be
from the Book of Psalms or somewhere else in the Bible (apparently this topic
was all over the radio yesterday morning).
My only knowledge of what a “sinners prayer” is any generic prayer where
one confesses their sins before God and asks for forgiveness.  Some say it includes asking Christ in their
life and some say otherwise.  I just
remember a bumper sticker that read: If you wait til the 11th Hour,
what happens if you die at 10:30.  It’s
sad that people do wait until the last minute before turning their life over to
Christ.  It’s been almost two weeks
since Easter, you still thinking about the next move?

  • (Sharka with laser on his head)
  • Yesterday, Nowk came over for dinner with Cluck-U in
hand.  Those are the best wings
around.  Hmmmmmmm Cluck-U.  After dinner we talked, we laughed, we
cried, we shared a moment.  OK, we
really just ate chicken wings, watched the O’s game and caught up on the
    times.

Coming back from tonight’s ministry team meeting my cars
    odometer hit 91919 miles.
    Sweeeeet.  It’s always
encouraging coming back from these meetings because of how everyone there just
wants to seek God’s will and make sure the decisions that are made continue to
    glorify Him.

  • O’s vs Blue Jays.  Zards vs Cavs.  And House starts in 30 minutes.  I need another TV!!!!

Chewy isn’t here so its time to P-A-R-T … Zzzzzz

  • still up … some humor for the masses

    http://www.shortpacked.com/d/20060424.html

David Willis is sooooo hilarious!  Our minds think alike.  He’s just able to make it funny and I’m … just … not … that … funny.

  • Monday is street hockey night!

I’m exhausted and wired all at the same time.  Hopefully typing will take me a few notches
down so I can get some sleep tonight.
Had a goal, a few assists and some decent saves when I was playing
goalie.  The weather was just right
though after sucking in all that pollen I’m having some breathing
    problems.

Chewy left for business travel yesterday morning leaving me
to do worship setup at church.  It’s not
a problem since I can usually set things up in less than 20 minutes.  But when no one is there to open the church
doors that sorta put a wrinkle in your mood.
Not a good start on a Sunday morning.
There were two good points that have been on my mind from service and
Sunday school.  The speaker asked the
question “So it’s the week after Easter, now what?”  After what we discussed in Bible study on Friday night about how
we serve and why we serve it just hit home about reinforcing the various things
I do in and around church.  I’ve started
to have doubts because with Chewy busy with work and me busy with various
church meetings or preparing study it seems like we don’t always have enough
time to just be together and enjoy life as a married couple.  But on the flip side, would the time gained
from giving up the service things that we do enhance our marriage or weaken it
by drawing us further away from God?  Hmmm
still need to start this weeks Bible study.

The second thought was from Sunday school where it was asked
about in what areas has the church lost its faith in God.  My group talked about potentially missing
God’s mission for the church and how the congregation could ignore what God has
    called it to do.  Discouragement,
self-ambitions or plain negative thinking draw us away from having faith in
God.  That He will provide and that we
need to act upon the things He calls us to do.
Which brings me to the church doors not being open in the morning.  I should have been happy that someone did
show up with a key and not be upset about it.

So two questions to think about:

It’s a week after Easter, what does your walk mean to
you?  Is there more to our new life than
the joy of being saved?  How do we go
about glorifying God from this point on?

Lastly, what do we still cling to that reduces or prohibits
our faith in Christ?  If Christ called
us to walk on water do we jump out of the boat with any doubts or feel the need
to test the water temperature first?

  • Call me IRONTRON!  At least that’s what my Transformers name is.  That name just brings images of Ironhide to mind.  Slow, wide and old.  Maybe it’s fitting.  Study was good last night.  We talked about what it means to be a humble, obedient servant of God; what “rights” we cling to that prohibit us from fully being obedient; and how our humility and service exalts God.

  • Its been another one of those pollen-licious days.

Doesn’t look like G2 Optimus Prime is very environmental is he?  I just need to add some trees to the picture and boy would that be a dream come true.

Chewy just made dinner (marinated chicken from Costco, green peppers and rice) so we can eat quickly and head off to Bible study.

  • Chewy’s watching Gilmore Girls Season 3 right now.

Got to stay home from work today because we had Healthy Air Duct Cleaning come in and clean the air ducts in the house.  Hopefully this helps both of our breathing issues.

The lawn finally got mowed too.

    Half-price Easter Peeps are awesome!
