  • ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!

Today marks the start of next NFL season and for fans all over the next year for Fantasy Football fanatics.  Fanatics because fantasy football has created new jobs: legal advice and insurance  Yeah, that’s just weird.  As you read the article take note of what Colin Cowherd is quoted as saying.  Yet, another reason to not listen to him.  That and his radio show isn’t that good.

  • Just a Few Links To Keep Us All Busy Over The Weekend …

  • Yep …

From Pooch Cafe.  That’s how I feel most of the time these days.  There just seems to be too much going on, especially at work.  It just dawned on me today that it’s September (hey, I’m only a day behind right?) and none of the things I needed to get done during the summer had gotten done.  Though I did just spend the last two nights participating in my two Fantasy Football league drafts.  Yep, time well spent.

Funny quote from Levi Johnston who’s making the rounds again.  The actual quote which I first saw but later got moved around in the article is “Johnston says there wasn’t much parenting. He says Palin’s children pretty much took care of themselves, and did the cooking, cleaning and laundry.”  I never knew the measuring stick for good parenting was not having the kids cook, clean or do laundry.  Using his measuring stick that would mean most Asian parents are horrible parents for making their kids cook, clean and do laundry.

And for those in the DC area, several Metro stations will be closed during the long weekend. Sorta suxs for those who rely on Metro and for those planning on going to National Airport.  Even though the closure is for overdue track maintenance there’s still a ton of complaints.  I guess WMATA can’t win.  Complaints about trains running slow, trains crashing into each other, tracks that need maintenance yet can’t get them, etc, etc, etc Yep, suxs to be WMATA too.

  • Jack verse Health Care …

Did you know Jack Bauer’s grandfather was the man who brought universal health care to Canada?  The article pretty much sums up what’s expected about the different views of health care by a few different church conferences.  Either way people must see that the current system isn’t working and needs help.  Then again folks said social security was running out of money and people decided to not believe that either.  Wait.  The world is round?

Two bits of federal news that I stumbled upon.  First is that Obama is going to limit the upcoming COLA increases to federal workers to 2 percent.  I applaud part of his reasoning of that there’s a need to balance the budget but wasn’t he the same person who wanted to grow the federal force to meet the needs of the nation and remove the cost of costly contractors?  Most federal workers are underpaid to begin with.  You don’t make things remotely competitive by giving a miserly pay increase.  Is the left hand talking to the right?

Update: Obama says he’s gonna make federal jobs “cool” considering there could be some 270,000 positions that need to be filled.  Still doesn’t look like the left hand is talking to the right.

And lastly, as we approach the fourth quarter of the year, this year has gone by quickly hasn’t it?  Don’t forget about all those stimulus programs that are ending.  The two biggest ones are the $8,000 tax credit for new home buyers and the tax credit on state or local taxes for car purchases.  Time is running out!
