Memorable Weekend: Part II …
Have you ever noticed when married guys see a friend who’s a single guy spend an extraordinary time with a single girl that then the married guys like to “encourage” said single guy? Yeah, it’s fun.
Hopefully, things workout for our single friends. Some other interesting things to note:
- I think the Nationals organization needs a new spellchecker. And what’s up with that hat? Talk about confused!!!
- If Dallas can do it, so can Spider-Man! Note where Mary Lane is.
- Why Margaret Cho? There’s gotta be someone else to represent! John Cho?
- Must find more info about the petition. Why didn’t they give the URL in the article!
- I think a bunch of Asian parents would have issues with this.
- A duh!
- Things you need to know about swine flu. Nothing revolutionary other than the fact that the media has gobbled it up and made us all scared. Most public health officials will say it’s just as dangerous as whatever flu is going around during the yearly flu season. I do find Point #5 interesting though: Who is Legally Responsible? I feel sorry for the dude who lost his wife but why does he have to find someone responsible for this and then sue them? It’s a virus. You’re trying to sue a virus. Otherwise, the person directly responsible for giving his wife the virus is probably some kid that she taught. *sigh*
- OMG!!! Orioles just announced that uber prospect Matt Wieters is being called up on Friday!!!

What a Memorable Weekend …
Yes, it’s time to reflect and remember those war veterans who have and are serving this beloved country. It also is a time for people to get married. I think this is the third time I’ve attended a wedding over a Memorial Day weekend. (For those folks – Happy Anniversary!) Some friends of ours got married on Saturday and one of the biggest concerns was the weather. The hope for sunshine and no rain for an outside wedding. I’m sure there were other concerns for the bride and groom but this was the one that most knew about.
The weather was perfect, the ceremony was beautiful, the groom was giddy. I remember that feeling when I got married to Chewy. Or maybe it was a sigh of relief, I’m not too sure.
But to suddenly realize that the two of you are one not just before each other eyes, but before Gods eyes, your families eyes and all that care about you. It’s an amazing feeling. Not only did we get to celebrate with them on Saturday, we also got to do so on Sunday at church. For them they’re leaving this coast to go west and start the next chapter of their lives. They’re good friends and they’ll be missed. During service we sang this song in their honor – sorta sappy but nonetheless …So until next time, we wish you well. May God continue to bless you both as you two grow together in spirit and in Christ.

Believe in Change …
When I hear that statement I think of the Simpsons episode where Marge is telling a story to the kids who are in the library about how she has a Sacagawea dollar coin that can be exchanged at a bank for a real dollar. Hilarious.
- As you know Obama signed into law the Credit Card Industry Reform Bill. Here’s another example of how that will “help” people in the future.
- Also this week, the Big O unveiled some new auto industry fuel standards. Most snippits will show that he wants a 35.5 mpg minimun for vehicles. Pretty good. Not great, but a decent start right? Heck, even the auto industry was behind it. Yeah for Big O! But when you look at the fine print, the proposal really does nothing. Yep, that’s some Washington, political change for ya. If anything some high schoolers figured this out a few years ago. GM probably should have hired them, maybe then they could have avoided bankrupcy.
- I wonder if they’ll be a Mac commercial about this? They have stepped up the ones about viruses but nothing about open vulnerabilities. Oooops, guess one of the “genuises” are still working on the fix.
- Good for the Smithsonian. The first movie wasn’t bad. Not sure if this one will be better because most sequals aren’t (unlike Empire). Probably a rental.
- For those interested in a Snuggie, here’s a video review on them.
- Guess there really is a direct link to God’s earthly representative…

Yin and Yang …
A few of us were able to gather at Mike’s American restaurant for dinner last night for a wild bachelor party of gluttony, boozing, and malicious slander about our spouses and their respective families.
Actually, we tied the bachelor up against a tree and threw jello at him.
Maybe, we just huddled around the table singing Kumbaya while eating Twinkies and Doritos.
Either way, remember rule #1 – No talking about Fight Club!
If anything the food at Mike’s was pretty good. A tad salty but good sized portions. I’d stay away from the mixed house salad. Had some weird dressing over it, considering I don’t care for dressing, it made the salad a tad uneatable for me since it was drenched in dressing. Remember, don’t drown your food! Now I’ve got an hankering for a hunk of cheese.
Besides the bachelor party, some other interesting things have happened over the past few days:
- Tuesday, was the day of the ping pong balls. The Wizards with the second worse record in the NBA had the second best chance of winning the First overall pick in the coming draft and could do no worse than 5th. Guess what the Zards got. Yep, the 5th pick. This draft is pretty sparse so Ernie is gonna have to do some digging for a decent rookie. There’s talk about trading the pick since the team is already pretty young. At this point I don’t care as long as they can get a productive person, especially a low-post threat who can defend. As much as I like Antawn Jamison, his defense is lacking.
- The National Zoo has said that Mei Xiang is not expecting. No new butterstick for the zoo.

- The GOP Brother: Michael Steele has been in the news lately. I like how he said: Ronald Reagan never lived in the past. Ronald Reagan was all about the future. If President Reagan were here today he would have no patience for Americans who looked backward. So if we’re not supposed to live in the future why is he using a quote from the past? Ahhhhhh, Michael, you so tricky!
- The House past the Credit Card Bill today. Some say that’s bad if you’re a good credit card user. While others say it’s good for those good credit card users. Dude maybe right on if you slip-up during a month or something but overall it’s gotta be bad for those good credit card users. Say hello to lower credit limits, the return of annual fees and no more perks. Stupid idiots, ruining it for all of us.

- WMATA announced that the medium income of it’s rail riders is $102K a year!!! Now who really believes that? Is this not a ploy to just raise rates again because “they” say the riders can afford it? What they do, poll the guy who won the huge Powerball lottery a few weeks ago? That just can’t be right.
- The seventh season of 24 ended on Monday. It was very anti-climatic. Poor Jack is running out of things to do. Season Eight should be him sleeping, eating, watching TV and time spent in the bathroom.

30-Day Float or Not …
It’s interesting to read about credit card reform because people need help now. Obviously, these people do need help but is it really help from credit cards or the government or really from themselves? Why do people get credit cards to begin with? Convenience or a personal line of credit that can be pushed off anywhere from a month to whenever they pay it totally off. Chewy was mentioning to me about how a friend of ours has never, ever had a credit card. I thought that was pretty interesting just because I got my first credit card back in college almost 20 years ago and our friend is the same age as I am. I remember my folks telling me about the evils of credit cards but also the benefits of a credit card. That no matter what, it was my card and I was the one responsible for how I used or abused it. I guess I just feel sorry for those who’s parents never had a talking with their kids and that they’re now abusing it. It’s sad not just for the users but also to the credit card companies. True, some things that they do maybe unfair but they’re basically allowing us to use credit while floating the balance for about 30 days if we pay it off. Otherwise, how do these credit card companies make their money? The little amount that they charge the stores to provide the service or through fees and money from interest rates. The credit card companies hope you don’t pay off your balance otherwise they won’t make any money and therefore, won’t be able to pay their employees. It really is a vicious cycle here for those who continue to have recycling debt. Sometimes it’s necessary and because of the ability to do so they must pay the cost to have the ability. So yet again, the government swoops in to save us from ourselves. I wonder how much of this could have been avoided if parents had similar talks to their kids about credit, responsibility and consequences.
With all the drama happening with Miss. California, a interesting piece about perceived beauty and expectations. And lastly, another interesting article about “Buy America” and how we want to be a global economy and yet not really. Who can name an all-American television company/manufacture? Or an all-American computer system? I guess it’s a good thing we’re limiting ourselves to steel and some other minor things.

27 Dollars …
Chewy and I had a rare Saturday where we had nothing really planned other than some quick errands and some potential home repairs. After talking about going to see Monsters vs Aliens in 3D for the past few weeks we finally went to go see the movie. The movie was pretty good and so was the 3D technology. The only problem was the fact that it cost us $27 to go see the movie on a Saturday. I know theatres are charging more for the whole 3D experience but OMG that was expensive! Probably the reason why we haven’t seen that many movies over the past few years.

For a season of so much promise, Game 7 between the Caps and Pens was so disappointing, being a Caps fan. While making dinner, I saw the first two period goals the Pens scored, then after eating dinner it was 4-0 Pens. OUCH! The Caps were so flat. What a way to end the season, losing 6-2. Hopefully they can build upon this and do better next year.
- Have you seen those yellow, Planet Aid clothing donation boxes around the area? I used to drop off stuff there because it was more convenient than going to Goodwill. But apparently, there’s some controversy about them; as told by Fox 5.
- A friend sent me a link about the original BSG and Mormonism. Pretty interesting since those were parts of Mormonism I had never heard about.
- It’s funny how the Democrats said Social Security was fine during the Bush administration and that nothing major needed to be done. That was shortsighted.

51st and 52nd States …
Recently, I got the latest state quarter, Puerto Rico. For those who don’t follow the whole quarter release thing, Puerto Rico comes right after the District of Columbia, which we know is not the 51st state. As a co-worker said, the 51st state is Canada.

Either way, the 51st state can’t be D.C. because IT’S A CITY, not a state.

GAME 7 COMETH!!!
Caps win in OT 5-4 to win Game 6.If the NHL can’t use this Washington/Pittsburgh series to help propel the sport they should be looking for new jobs.
