  • It’s Inconceivable …

Well, actually it’s not that inconceivable.  But local boy Mark Teixeira signs with the New York Yankees for $180 Million over 8 years.  Scott Boras is his agent and we know he will try to get top dollar for his clients.  Teams were throwing outrageous amounts in front of Teixeira and the Yankees do what they do best.  They overspend on players and they make the playoffs yet don’t win the World Series.  (ahem Moose)  I don’t feel jaded because Teixeira didn’t sign with the Orioles.  I really didn’t think he would mostly because if you’re a client of Boras the only thing that they worry about is the dollar amount.  Which if you know you have a limited career you might as well make as much money as possible.

I just wonder with this downturn in the economy will it eventually affect MLB and the Yankees?  They did just spend close to $400 Million for three players and they have A-Rod still on the payroll.  Is MLB on the same road as the NHL was on a few years ago?  Even the NFL let a few people go due to the economic slowdown.  Only time will tell.  And really, this only adds fuel to the fire in disliking the Yankees.

    Go O’s
