Weekends Need to Be Longer …
We decided to take a short trip to Ocean City, MD to further Chewy’s birfday experience.
Chewy (and Sharka) had never been there before and I had been there way too many times as that was the defacto family vacation spot. Either way it was nice to get away for a few days and try and relax. We ended up coming home early so we could attend a church congregational meeting, which IMO after sitting through it we could have missed. At the beginning of the first episode of the Clone Wars on Cartoon Network they showed the phrase “Great leaders inspire greatness in others.” There are so many directions I could go with that phrase but essentially it is true. Whether in a church, our political structure or even in our own lives. Are those we choose to be leaders allow others to become great or do you just hear a lot of lip service? Errrr, back on topic … Highlights of our trip!
- Tip #1: When you fly a kite make sure you assemble it correctly.
- Tip #2: When you fly a kite don’t fly it when someone close to you knows how to fly a kite better than you.
- Tip #3: When you fly a kite make sure there is wind.
Not really highlights yet, but we did buy a kite and tried to fly it. First we didn’t assemble it correctly so every time we tried to fly it, it would nose dive into the ground. Then the wind was pretty inconsistent so we did way too much running around on the sand trying to get the kite to stay aloft. Then some dude came by with a kite and had it flying in the air as we were running back and forth just trying to get ours to fly. It was sorta embarrassing, yet funny. Other highlights …
- The Boardwalk and Ocean City really closes down after 5pm. I guess that’s why it’s called an “Off-season”
- They still sell funny t-shirts at the beach. There were several for Obama, McCain and Pallin yet none for Biden. I wonder if he feels left out.
- The funnest/best t-shirt I saw said: I’m a hard worker because millions on welfare depend on me.
- When they say “Voted Best Funnel Cake in OC” they really, really mean it.
- Chewy birdied more than half the holes at the Old Pro Gold Dinosaur course. I birdied about a third of them but had a horrible triple-bogey on the 5th hole and could never recover.
- Skating at the Carousel was fun especially when there is no one on the ice and the ice is fresh. Too bad the rental skates were extremely stinky.
- Chewy was introduced to Fisher’s Popcorn. Fisher’s popcorn good.
