In common?
- Engagement ring
- Car insurance
- Greeting cards
At work we got on the topic of scams (mostly because we were goofing on this other guy who says he’s gotten himself into what we think is a “get rich quick” scam) and came up with our own most hated scams.
The engagement ring one came from the a guy who’s not getting his fiancee an engagement ring but has also been engaged for well over a year. Apparent she doesn’t want one so he’s happy about that and seriously thinks an engagement ring idea is just a big scam. I sorta agree only because in this day and age (in general speak) most women only care about one of the four C’s and that’s carat size. [Chewy: I tried to reject the engagement ring, but not the engagement itself. The ring was forced upon me.] The bigger the better. However, I think picking out a diamond is more of a science when you include the other three C’s (clarity, color and cut). For a stone that is fairly common when compared to the other precious gems, diamonds are overpriced and we’ve seen the class action lawsuit to back that up. Scam? You decide. But maybe after you talk to your significant other first.
Car insurance was mine. Having had to deal with them a few times car insurance is the biggest frackin scam out there. For one, it’s required by law but not really regulated by the government. You think you pay money up front to cover any potential instances but when it comes down to it it’s up the insurance company to decide who’s right or wrong. Usually, it’s not in your favor no matter what the situation is. So every year you pay money to a company because the government says you have to yet what real service do they provide? If you’re never in an accident then shouldn’t they refund that year’s coverage money? Did you use any of their services? Nope. Wait, they printed our your insurance card for you thats gotta cover the several hundred dollar yearly cost right? What a scam.
Greeting cards was the last one. Never thought about this one but I find it interesting. Who really cares about receiving a greeting cards? Mostly just females. And the funny part is it’s not like the giver is the one writing the words on the cards but the receiver generally likes the card. Scam or not? I’m still waiting for the Ground Hog day greeting cards as well.
