  • May Day! May Day!

“The first of May is International Workers’ Day, a holiday
founded to honor the long and bloody struggle of working people throughout the
    world against their oppressors.”

It was also a day for immigrants, legal and illegal, to
voice their opinions and make a stand for something I’m still clueless
about.  The more I read about the topic
the more I just don’t get it.  They’re
    talking about immigration rights.  I’m
all for that.  They’re talking about
rights for the Day Labors.  I’m cool with
that.  They’re talking about rights for
Guest Workers.  I’m down with that.

What I don’t get is how people can get legal immigrants,
those who obtain access to be in this country in a legal manner verse illegal
immigrants, those who enter this country not by the legal means, confused.  Sure immigrant workers do plenty in this
country.  Immigrants deserve not to be
abused and deserve rights.  But add the
word “illegal” in front of “immigrants” and it’s a whole new ballgame.

I remember this quote from the WashingtonPost.com:

“You can only march for so long to make your
point,” said Juan Jose Gutierrez, national coordinator for Latino Movement
USA, an early proponent of the boycott. He said organizers need to keep the
pressure on Congress to reject a House immigration bill that would make it a
felony to be in the country illegally or to assist an illegal immigrant.

    Ah WHAT!?!?!?  Why
wouldn’t it be a felony to be in this country illegally or to assist and
illegal immigrant?  Uh, they’re in this
country in an illegal manner.  Why do we
want to teach our kids, the so-called future of America, that it’s OK to skirt
the law to get what you want?  If you
don’t get caught eventually everything will work itself out and you’ll be
good.  What ever happened to the
morality of the people?  Not even in a
Christian sense but in a true right verses wrong sense.  This isn’t about race, how this nation was
built upon the backs of immigrants or basic rights for legal immigrants – it’s
about trying to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this
    country.

Why are those people who follow the rules to live and work
in this country be punished.  Why should
those illegal immigrants who have not been caught in five years for living here
have a better chance at citizenship when those on H1 visas, school visas or those
married to US citizen.  Why should those who are legally trying to be here stand in line, wait and potentially be denied living here
because they followed the rules.  It’s a
    sham and a mockery – It’s a SHAM-MOCKERY!
